THE Hawkesbury Bulls are the Premiers and Champions of the Sim Football League 2 competition after coming from behind to destroy the Brewers by 50 points in the Grand Final at Rum Park on the weekend. After a decade of effort yielded only one elimination final loss and two Shield grand final defeats, the Bulls came from 82 points down just before quarter time, and 76 points at half time, conceding only three more majors for the rest of the game and adding 24 of their own to win 34.12 216 to 27.4 166. The Brewers had smashed Hawkesbury by 101 points in the second semi final only two weeks ago, but were hampered by the loss of key centre half back Corey Enright, as well as wingman Ben Johnson and interchange player Tadhg Kennelly before the game, costing them three goals with no emergencies available to play. The Bulls, who were already without injured duo Adam Cooney and Adam Schneider, also lost two players before the game when wingman Dan Hannebery and forward Shannon Byrnes withdrew, but they were able to replace them with Chris Yarran and Alex Rance to secure a crucial advantage. It was the perfect way to send off retiring club legends, coach Paul Roos and captain Brett Kirk, with both proving instrumental in their last game. The Messiah Roos scored three goals and leaves the club with 70 wins and 59 losses from 129 matches in charge, while Kirk came off the bench to kick a goal and retires with an impressive club record 196 matches, in which he contributed 212 goals - and a Premiership Cup! Hawkesbury gradually worked its way back into the game with Gary Ablett returning to form after an uncharacteristically poor performance in the 20-point preliminary final win over Filthy Animals, kicking four goals, but it was centre half forward Jared Brennan who played the match of his life, having 16 kicks, 12 marks and four goals to be named Best On Ground in the Grand Final. Bulls' stars Cameron Bruce and Marc Murphy also kicked four goals each, while Matt Rosa and Barry Hall booted three as their team drew level by three quarter time before charging away in the final quarter. Colin Sylvia was the Brewers best with his perfect 2.2 on a back flank, while Darren Milburn, Bryce Gibbs, Chris Judd and coach Mark Thompson kicked four and Steve Johnson three to help build the early formidable lead. But they had little else to smile about as the mighty Bulls, having earlier won the minor premiership for the first time, wore them down and ran straight past to bring 10 years of blood, sweat and tears to the ultimate climax.
